My skin care routine began when I was 11. I remember it very clearly. My beautiful mother, bundling us up in the car and heading to Toowoomba to go to the Myer store. Back then, it seemed like a major road trip, now it’s only an hour up the range from where I grew up.
My Mum believed in good skin and good hygiene. On that day in Toowoomba, Mum bought me my first ever skin care products, the wonderful Yardley Skin Care Pack. It contained a cleanser, cleansing brush, toner and moisturiser. Something so simple was what started me caring for my skin. I have diligently cleansed my skin most (there are a couple of nights that are a little blurry!) nights.
The first question I ask my clients who are interested in improving their skin is “what do you do for your skin at home?”
Simple question, but a lot do nothing. If you want good skin, the first and most basic step is to clean it! And you know what? I don’t mind what you use, as long as you are cleansing the build-up of grime from your face.
So here’s a little tip that can help reduce pimples, blackheads and help your skin to look and feel better, especially if you are on a budget. Go and get some QV facial cleanser or Cetaphil. It cleanses and has the correct PH to not upset your skin, especially if you have reactive skin. Do I think you will get better results from a cleanser with more active ingredients? absolutely, but these are a great starting point. You should cleanse morning and night. At night, double cleanse, you need to remove make-up etc from your skin before you really clean your skin. In the morning a quick cleanse is ok before you put your sunblock and makeup on.
If you are having problems with your skin, the most effective solution is usually the most simple. So start cleaning your face properly. Wash it with a good cleanser, I promise you, within a week of washing it correctly, you will see an improvement!
